About Luminr

What is Luminr and how does it work?

Luminr is a search intelligence tool that provides a comprehensive overview of your online visibility. It discovers patterns, opportunities, and insights to help you grow your online presence, attract more customers, and outshine your competitors.

The platform’s main areas of focus are Industry Benchmarks, Competitor Analysis and SERP Coverage. We report on everything from visibility and share-of-voice to content development and SERP features.

Our goal is to help you maximise your profits by understanding the strengths and weaknesses of your online strategy and making data-driven decisions to optimise your performance.

Luminr does this by tracking and analysing your keywords, markets, languages and competitors - delivering the results in an easy-to-use dashboard. We do all the heavy lifting usually reserved for data analysts so you can spend time on more business-critical search marketing tasks.

What is Luminr's unique vision?

Luminr was created from a Total Search philosophy. Simply put, we have a different (and better) way of looking at search.

Instead of just focusing on one channel (SEO, PPC, SMM, PR, Content Marketing), we consider all the ways people can find your business online.  We not only look at page one of Google as a whole but also consider other platforms where searches are taking place, such as TikTok, Amazon, Tripadvisor and ChatGPT.

To deliver on this vision our dashboard features unique benchmarks around visibility, clickthrough rates and what we have called SERP Real Estate. SERP Real Estate is a metric used in Luminr to gauge a website's visibility on page one based. This figure calculates your keyword list and the keywords tracked by competitors taking into account both organic and paid elements and where on the results you appear.

What search engines and search platforms does Luminr support?

Luminr currently supports Google and Baidu. We will be launching TikTok in mid-2023.

Why TikTok? We got our start by measuring and analysing the entire first page of Google. Like most in the space, Google was the only search engine where we considered users to be. Now the space is changing and Luminr is changing with it.

Our goal is to be where users are and many now begin their search on social or on marketplaces. That is why we are in the process of integrating TikTok and are currently exploring other platforms such as Amazon, Tripadvisor and ChatGPT.

How is Luminr different from other solutions in the market?

We are not a keyword landscaping tool or a backlink crawler and we won’t perform site audits. Luminr is a unique digital marketing platform that's different from other typical SEO platforms. Popular tools like Moz, Semrush and Ahrefs provide you with the raw data but leave you alone to figure out what to do with it. Instead, Luminr is a digital strategist's secret weapon.

Luminr is designed to help digital strategists work smarter and faster by providing valuable insights quickly, without the need to spend time sifting through countless reports or data. We like to describe it as having a crystal ball that does the hard work for you by empowering you to shape your marketing campaigns across all search channels, giving you the upper hand over your competitors and helping you dominate the digital search landscape.

How was Luminr started?

Luminr is the result of a collaboration between a team of data scientists, analysts, and search marketers. We were all working together in a digital marketing company trying to bring more value to our clients and their search marketing efforts. We were eager not to create another boring and manual Google sheet.

We leveraged our collective knowledge and expertise to develop a reporting tool our team felt would empower brands to achieve digital marketing excellence. Several iterations (and some AI and machine learning) later our application of data-driven strategies, competitor research and cutting-edge technology led us to Luminr.

Luminr officially launched in October 2022 at BrightonSEO and shortly after appeared at Web Summit as one of the selected ALPHA start-ups.

Is Luminr easy to use for non-technical users?

Yes, Luminr is user-friendly and easy to use for both technical and non-technical users. Our clean and intuitive interface makes it easy to navigate and understand. An understanding of search engine marketing and search marketing strategies is suggested.

Dotted around the platform you will also find tips, links and insights identified by the help and lightbulb icons. These are there to help you act on what you see. These might be guidance on how to quickly interpret the data or where you can turn insight into opportunity.

Additionally, we offer a range of training and support options for our users including demos, 1-2-1s and tutorials. More than anything our dedicated support team is on hand to help you get the most out of the platform.

Our Technology

What kind of data is collected with Luminr?

Luminr collects a wide range of data from page one search engine results pages (SERPs), including information on website rankings, search volume, click-through rates, search features, and more. Luminr uses this data to gain insights into search trends, identify opportunities for optimisation, and track the effectiveness of SEO and PPC campaigns.

In addition to the web page titles and URLs present on a SERP, there are a variety of features appearing in many different formats. Some examples include:

1. Featured snippets: a summary of the answer to the search query displayed at the top of the page.

2. Knowledge panels: a result providing additional information about a person, place, or thing related to the search query.

3. Local packs: a group of local business listings that appear in a map with the location and contact details of each business.

4. Image and video results: a grid of images or videos related to the search query.

5. Advertisements: paid ads that appear at the top and bottom of the SERP, and sometimes in the middle of the page.

6. People also ask: a list of related questions that people commonly ask about the search query, along with short answers.

7. Related searches: a list of related search queries that might be relevant to the user's original search query.

8. Shopping Results: product listings that appear when a user searches for a specific product or category. Results typically include an image of the product, its price, and a brief description.

9. Maps: often displayed for searches with local intent and show relevant business listings with their locations on a map.

10. Social media results: relevant search results from social media sites, such as Twitter and TikTok.

Luminr also collects data on the devices used to perform searches, the language of the query and results and the geographic locations of searchers. By collecting all this data, Luminr gives businesses the most relevant view of the search landscape out there.

This data is stored and accessible within your dashboard for as long as you are a subscriber.
